Cochin airport has established two new fast charging stations providing electric vehicle owners with the convenience of quick and efficient charging services. These are operational in the parking areas of both the domestic and international terminals. Each station is equipped with two units of 60 kW EV DC fast chargers, allowing up to four electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously. This initiative is part of CIAL's efforts to support eco-friendly vehicles and enhance facilities for passengers and visitors. A total of 4 units of 60 kW EV DC fast chargers are available across 2 charging stations, enabling up to 8 vehicles to be charged simultaneously at both terminals. Users must charge their vehicles and pay the amount through the 'Charge Mode' app. This app also offers customers the option to select the plans that best suit their needs. “The launch of EV fast charging stations showcases CIAL’s proactive approach to fostering environmental responsibility and enhancing the airport experience”, said S Suhas IAS, Managing Director, CIAL. “The stations empower sustainable travel, paving the way for not only the present but also the future. CIAL is committed to a future where the utilization of green energy is optimized. Our joint venture with BPCL to produce green hydrogen is a leap forward to a more sustainable future. It is likely that CIAL will soon initiate a hydrogen fueling station as well, aligning with our continuous pursuit of modernization and sustainable energy practices”, he added. The parking facilities at the international and domestic parking stations can accommodate 2800 cars simultaneously. An additional parking space for 600 cars is being ready. Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the parking lot, from which CIAL generates approximately 20,000 units of electricity per day from this carport alone. To provide the public with contemporary conveniences, a smart parking system that incorporates ‘Fastag’ technology has been installed at the airport.
