With the objective of expediting passenger security screening, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has commissioned the trial run of Full-Body Scanners. An Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS), designed to accelerate the movement of cabin baggage during security checks, has also been introduced. The new systems are aimed at reducing waiting time and easing congestion at security checkpoints while enhancing overall screening efficiency. The equipment was formally commissioned at a function held at the security check area of the Domestic Terminal by S. Suhas IAS, Managing Director, CIAL. Airport Director Manu G., Chief Technology Officer Santosh S., and Chief Aerodrome Security Officer (CASO) Nagendra Devrari, along with senior officials of CIAL, were also present at the event. At present, passenger screening at both the Domestic and International Terminals is carried out through around 32 Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) points followed by manual frisking. With the inception of Full body scanners and upon receiving Regulatory approval from BCAS, the security checks could be fully automated, enabling completion of passenger screening without physical intervention. Currently, one Full Body Scanner is installed at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
